The citizens of Nasirabad have given an ultimatum to the provincial health department officials, threatening a complete shutter-down strike and a blockade of the Indus Highway, demanding the immediate resumption of construction work on the Taluka Hospital project, which has been stalled for 12 years.
The warning was issued during a protest march and sit-in held in Chodhero village on Monday, organized by the Sajag Shehri Ittehad (Vigilant Citizens Alliance), marking the 45th consecutive day of the public movement.
Led by the alliance’s General Secretary, Asif Katheo, and other community figures, the demonstration saw robust participation from villagers, youth, students, and children, who chanted slogans in support of their demands.
Addressing the rally, the leaders declared that the halt in the hospital’s construction, which began over a decade ago, has deprived hundreds of thousands of the taluka’s residents of basic medical facilities.
They also highlighted the dire situation at the local Rural Health Center, stating that it severely lacks doctors, medicines, and essential treatment facilities.
The absence of crucial services such as emergency care, a laboratory, X-ray equipment, and pediatric specialists forces people to travel to distant cities for necessary medical attention.
The protesters have warned Sindh’s Provincial Minister for Health, Dr. Azra Pechuho, the Secretary of Health, local elected representatives, and the DHO that they will intensify their actions if work does not resume in December.
The alliance demanded that the concerned authorities take immediate steps to complete the hospital’s construction and ensure an adequate supply of medical professionals and medicines at the Rural Health Center.
