Polio Vaccination Drive Attacked in Bajaur, Leaving Police Guard and Civilian Dead

A deadly assault on an anti-polio vaccination team in Bajaur on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of a police constable and a civilian passerby, prompting a swift and strong denunciation from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The violent ambush occurred within the jurisdiction of the Khar Police Station, targeting health workers dedicated to the public health campaign. Constable Sajjad Ahmed, who was providing security for the team, was martyred in the line of duty. An unfortunate bystander was also caught in the crossfire and lost their life.

In a statement, Interior Minister Naqvi expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of life. He paid tribute to the fallen officer, calling Constable Sajjad Ahmed a “hero of the nation” who attained the great rank of martyrdom while protecting the crucial health initiative.

Mr. Naqvi extended his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families of both the slain constable and the deceased civilian. He assured the loved ones of the victims that the government would provide them with full support during this difficult period of mourning.
