Municipal Corporation employees have initiated a complete pen-down strike, shutting down their offices until the administration acts on a list of long-standing grievances.
The protest action, which began on Monday, was launched to secure official approval for several key demands, including the implementation of government-mandated salary increases, payment of outstanding gratuity, and the processing of delayed promotions.
Union leader Mazhar Abbasi, speaking on behalf of the staff, stated that despite government orders being issued, many employees have been deprived of promotions for years.
He highlighted the financial hardships faced by the workers, stating that the wage increase announced in the last budget has yet to be disbursed, and the corresponding salary differential is also overdue.
Furthermore, Abbasi condemned the practice of disbursing gratuity funds in small installments, calling it an “injustice” to the dozens of personnel awaiting their full and rightful dues.
The union leadership also pointed to a broken promise made during a previous protest, stating that Pakistan Peoples Party Mirpurkhas City President Pir Izzat Shah Jilani had pledged the swift resolution of all legitimate demands but failed to follow through on his assurance.
During the demonstration, municipal employees expressed their discontent through intense sloganeering, emphasizing their resolve to continue the strike.
