The peaceful protest movement for the restoration of the tehsil hospital and against the severe shortage of medical staff and equipment has entered its 65th consecutive day, with organizers threatening a shutter-down strike if the health department and elected representatives fail to meet their demands.
The civil rights organization, “Sajag Shehri Ittehad Nasirabad,” organized a short protest march in the village of Nabi Bakhsh Kandhro on Sunday to highlight this long-standing health issue.
Addressing a gathering of political figures, social activists, and distressed villagers, speakers including interim president Sufi Ghaffar Channo and Asif Kathia criticized the “silence” of the District Health Officer (DHO) Qambar and the Health Secretary on the matter.
The protest leaders lamented that elected representatives have become mere “spectators” to this crisis. They stated that the area’s Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) had inaugurated the hospital in 2021, but the contractor left the construction work incomplete.
It was also reported that the absence of doctors and medicines in the existing rural health centers is causing severe hardship for hundreds of thousands of local residents.
The Sajag Shehri Ittehad has issued a clear ultimatum, warning that if the authorities do not immediately address the hospital’s issues, the organization will launch more severe protests, including a complete shutter-down strike. Reaffirming their commitment to the people of Tehsil Nasirabad, they said that their movement will continue peacefully until the complete restoration of the medical facility.
