A high-level provincial delegation on Wednesday assessed the advancement of a critical 105-kilometre railway line, a strategic infrastructure initiative designed to enhance Pakistan”s energy security by linking Thar coal reserves to national transport hubs.
Acting on directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Provincial Energy Secretary Shahab Qamar Ansari led the comprehensive site visit at Choor, near Umerkot. He was accompanied by Commissioner Mirpurkhas Faisal Uqali and senior officials from the Energy Department.
The inspection team conducted a thorough review of the ongoing work on the rail link, which connects the Thar coal mines with Bin Qasim to facilitate the efficient transportation of coal.
The development scheme also incorporates a 9-kilometre track extension from Bin Qasim to Port Qasim and includes the construction of a dedicated coal unloading facility at the port.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has previously emphasised that the new railway will integrate the Thar coal fields with the national railway network and Port Qasim, ensuring the seamless movement of the fuel.
