Top-Level Committee to Overhaul Pakistan’s Energy Pricing Framework

The government has initiated a high-level review of the existing pricing structure for the oil and gas sector, exploring significant reforms aimed at enhancing affordability, sustainability, and overall sectoral performance.

The move was confirmed following a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee in the capital, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the nation’s energy markets, according to official information today.

The committee deliberated on the pricing framework currently governed by the applicable petroleum policy regime.

Members scrutinised the present mechanisms and evaluated a range of reform options designed to improve the energy sector”s long-term viability and performance.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials, including the Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, the Minister for Power, and the Minister for Petroleum.

Also present were the Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani; Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Tariq Bajwa; the Adviser on Privatisation; the Head of the Power Sector Task Force; and the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue.
