Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, today paid homage to the law enforcement personnel who sacrificed their lives on the 29th anniversary of the Lahore Session Court tragedy.
In a statement, the provincial police chief saluted the “great sons” who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and also acknowledged the irreparable loss of their families.
The somber occasion commemorates the 1997 incident when 14 officers and officials of the Punjab Police were martyred at the city’s session court.
The personnel martyred in the tragedy included two sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector (ASI), two head constables, and nine other officials.
Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that the Punjab Police is the custodian of the legacy of more than 1700 martyrs, and expressed the resolve that their “immortal sacrifices will never be forgotten”.
He added that ensuring the comprehensive welfare of the families of these martyred officers is the top priority of the police department.
