Sindh on High Alert as Authorities Mandate Sweeping Security Plan for Ramadan

Sindh has been placed on high alert as Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed law enforcement to formulate an extraordinary security strategy to counter crime and ensure public safety throughout the province during the holy month of Ramadan in 2026.

According to an official information, the home minister instructed the Sindh Police to immediately submit a comprehensive and foolproof Ramadan Contingency Plan for review. The mandate calls for a robust police presence at all mosques, imambargahs, shrines, and open-air Taraweeh congregations, aiming to allow worshippers to perform their religious duties without fear.

The minister specifically ordered a surge in policing at bustling commercial hubs, markets, and shopping centres. Additional police mobiles, motorcycle squads, and foot patrols are to be deployed during Sehri and Iftar times to proactively prevent street crime and other illicit activities.

Security protocols will also be intensified at key provincial entry and exit points, major highways, and other sensitive locations. Mr Lanjar emphasised the acceleration of intelligence-based search and combing operations, alongside maintaining strict surveillance on suspicious individuals and criminal groups.

A special crackdown has been ordered to curb incidents of robbery, theft, and street crime, with the minister affirming that strict and impartial legal action will be pursued against criminal elements and organised gangs.

The minister stressed the need to modernise the security framework by leveraging technology, including effective CCTV monitoring and proactive field patrolling. Concurrently, the Traffic Police have been tasked with ensuring the smooth flow of vehicles, particularly during peak Iftar hours, and preparing special arrangements for any emergency.

To ensure accountability, district officers have been instructed to maintain a consistent presence in the field, personally monitor security arrangements, and provide daily reports.

Lanjar also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Police Helpline 15 or their nearest police station, urging full cooperation with law enforcement to maintain peace.
