A customs sepoy was killed, another critically injured, and a third is believed to have been abducted following a pre-dawn terrorist attack on a customs facility on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at approximately 00:30 hours at the Customs Check Post (CCP) Yarik when a group of assailants armed with sophisticated weapons launched an assault, demanding the surrender of the post and its armaments.
According to an official report, 27 customs officials defended the checkpoint, engaging the attackers in a firefight that lasted for more than sixty minutes. The personnel resisted demands to capitulate and successfully repelled the assault, preventing a greater loss of life.
Sepoy Muhammad Ibrar was killed during the exchange of fire. Another official, Sepoy Muhammad Noman, sustained critical injuries and was immediately evacuated for medical treatment. A third sepoy, Khanwez Khan, has been reported missing and is suspected to have been kidnapped by the attackers. The check post also sustained damage during the confrontation.
The deceased official, Sepoy Ibrar, was 28 years old and hailed from the village of Darra Pezu in Dera Ismail Khan. He had served in the department for four years and had been married one month prior to the incident. He is survived by his parents, widow, and three siblings.
The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) acknowledged the service of the slain official and directed that the Prime Minister’s Shahuda Package be disbursed to his family without delay. The directive also included an offer of employment within the department for the sepoy”s widow.
Authorities stated that the discipline and commitment shown by the personnel during the grave security threat were exemplary. An investigation is underway, and further details regarding the assailants and efforts to locate the missing sepoy will be shared as they become available.
