Lahore: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Animal Agriculture Association of Jinan to enhance institutional cooperation in livestock modernization and the development of the dairy value chain. This agreement was announced during a think tank session at the PCJCCI Secretariat.
According to Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nazir Hussain, President PCJCCI, emphasized the potential for enhanced collaboration between Pakistan and China in the dairy sector. He highlighted that the growing demand for premium dairy products in China presents a significant opportunity for Pakistan's dairy industry. The MoU aims to facilitate cooperation in dairy technology transfer, modern livestock management, skill development, research linkages, and investment facilitation.
Pakistan ranks among the top five milk-producing countries globally, generating over 60 million tons of milk annually. Hussain noted that joint ventures and export-oriented initiatives could strengthen Pakistan's economy. He underscored that China views Pakistan as a key dairy producer in South Asia and suggested that by utilizing Chinese technologies and advanced management systems, Pakistan can enhance efficiency and competitiveness in its dairy sector.
Brig. Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President PCJCCI, expressed interest in expanding cooperation within Pakistan's dairy landscape. China's dairy imports have grown significantly, and structured collaboration with Chinese industry associations could accelerate Pakistan's dairy modernization and human resource development. He also highlighted China's initiatives in skill enhancement, such as the Jinan Animal Husbandry Industry Craftsman College.
Zafar Iqbal, Vice President PCJCCI, pointed out China's current reliance on dairy imports from countries like New Zealand and Australia. He stressed the need for government measures to boost Pakistan's dairy exports and improve production standards. Iqbal also urged for capacity-building and technological support programs in collaboration with Chinese partners to address challenges faced by local farmers.
Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General PCJCCI, noted that animal husbandry is central to Pakistan's agricultural economy, particularly in Balochistan, where Gwadar Port is located. He emphasized the potential for cattle and dairy farming in the province and advocated for extending China's advanced agricultural models into Pakistan. Hanif concluded that engagement with Chinese industry associations and expert networks is crucial for transitioning Pakistan toward a modern, technology-driven dairy ecosystem aligned with international standards.
