Karachi Arts Council senior member, prominent social figure Sultan Khalil passes away due to cancer

Sultan Khalil, a senior member of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and a tireless supporter of literary culture, passed away on Saturday after a long battle with bone cancer.

A strong pillar for the promotion of books across the country, the deceased was admired for his passion and dedication. Despite his severe illness, he remained steadfastly engaged in his work and made significant contributions to the arts scene.

For a quarter of a century, Mr. Khalil was an integral part of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. He was key in organizing all the book fairs held under the council’s auspices and was a driving force behind their success.

His influence also extended to civic institutions, where he was a well-known figure due to his long-standing association with the Karachi Municipal Corporation’s library.

The deceased’s funeral prayer was offered at Masjid Hanfia on Burns Road. He was later laid to rest in a local cemetery.

The last rites were attended by numerous prominent figures, including Arts Council President Ahmed Shah, senior journalist Mehboob Khan, and Burns Road Town in-charge Irfanullah Khan. Also present were Faisal Mirza of MQM Ranchore Line, former KMC Senior Director Mazhar Khan, and PTCL Public Relations Officer Saleem Khan, among others.

A large number of citizens, friends, relatives, and people from various walks of life attended the funeral prayer and paid tribute to the deceased.
