Karachi Mayor meets Japanese Ambassador, seeks investment for improving sewerage and energy projects

Karachi Mayor, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has formally invited Japanese investors to the city, promising comprehensive cooperation and the provision of improved infrastructure to facilitate partnerships in key areas, including the sewerage system, biogas, and environmentally friendly energy.

This direct appeal for investment was made during a high-level meeting this morning with Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, who was accompanied by the Japanese Consul General in Karachi and other officials.

Welcoming the Japanese delegation, Mayor Wahab emphasized the strong friendship between the two countries and described Japan’s cooperation for Pakistan and its people as “exemplary.”

He mentioned the deep affection between the people of both nations, stating, “The people of Pakistan consider Japan their second home, and the love of the Japanese people for Pakistan is commendable.”

The Mayor confirmed that the city administration is already in contact with Japanese companies regarding the municipal system and expressed a keen desire for further collaboration.

Reassuring potential investors, he said that work is underway to build better infrastructure for international investment and all necessary facilities will be provided.

In addition to economic development, the Mayor mentioned that steps are also being taken to promote tourism in Karachi.

The Mayor revealed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is also working on a plan to help local medical professionals secure jobs in Japan.

Ambassador Shuichi expressed his personal sentiments, saying, “I like the culture of Pakistan; Pakistan is like my home.”

The Japanese Ambassador concluded the meeting by formally inviting Mayor Wahab to visit Japan.
