Karachi: Chairman of the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP), Malik Muhammad Bostan, has expressed relief following the government's timely clarification about false rumors of a smart lockdown circulating on social media. According to the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan, the government swiftly debunked the baseless claims, alleviating widespread public concern over potential lockdown measures.
Bostan acknowledged the anxiety experienced by both the business community and the general public due to the rumors, especially in light of rising international tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. These geopolitical factors have led to a significant increase in petroleum prices, impacting industries dependent on oil-based raw materials, and contributing to inflationary pressures.
In his remarks, Bostan emphasized that, given the current economic challenges, there is no rationale for implementing a smart lockdown. He noted Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif's assurance that no such measures are being considered and urged the public to refrain from spreading false information.
Bostan welcomed the recent agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and highlighted Pakistan's proactive diplomatic engagement amidst the potential for conflict between the United States and Iran. He praised the efforts of Pakistan's leadership, particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Sharif, in acting as mediators during this critical period.
He further revealed that the United States has sought the mediation efforts of Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, underscoring Pakistan's significant role in efforts to prevent regional conflict.
