US-Based Poet Honoured for Promoting Urdu and Intercultural Harmony

A US-based poet, Dr Noor Amrohvi, was formally recognised for his contributions to Urdu literature and his efforts in fostering intercultural harmony by bringing Hindu and Pakistani communities together in the United States through poetry. The acknowledgement came during a gathering held in his honour at the Haseena Moin Hall, organised by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi in collaboration with Sakinan-e-Shehr-e-Quaid.

According to a report today, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council and the event”s chief guest, presented a shield to Dr Amrohvi acknowledging his services. In his address, Shah remarked on the rich artistic heritage of Amroha, noting its history of producing talent across various fields. He described Dr Amrohvi as a “multidimensional personality” who adeptly balances spiritual and worldly life, adding that people in literature form a global community bound by knowledge.

Presiding over the function, Khalid Irfan stated that Dr Amrohvi has earned significant respect through his work to unite people through love. Irfan highlighted the poet”s organisation of mushairas (poetry gatherings) among Hindu and Pakistani communities in the US as a potent example of intercultural unity. He also noted that Dr Amrohvi annually hosts two major events: an international mushaira and a naat recitation gathering, the latter of which he has consistently organised for 23 years.

Other speakers offered their commendations. Dr Ambareen Haseeb Amber described the poet as a humble individual whose work reflects the emotions of modern migration and the recurring theme of a mother’s love. Mahmood Ahmed Khan lauded individuals who promote Urdu literature while residing overseas. Tariq Sabzwari recalled Dr Amrohvi”s successful performances in India, and Dr Auj-e-Kamal affirmed his service to the Urdu language.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Noor Amrohvi expressed his gratitude to all participants. He stated that he is a “person of love” who has consistently endeavoured to share the goodwill he has received. “We are ambassadors of love, and that is our true identity and greatest asset, which we strive to spread across the world,” he affirmed.
