Labour Day observed in Balochistan

International Labour Day was observed across Balochistan today, marked by rallies and demonstrations organised by trade unions, labour associations, and civil society bodies throughout the province, including the capital, Quetta. Participants articulated strong demands for fair wages, safe working environments, and comprehensive social protection for employees.

The observance saw a renewed dedication to safeguarding the entitlements of the labour force. Amidst these public calls, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti issued a message underscoring the critical role of workers as the bedrock of societal progress and prosperity.

In his statement, released by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on the eve of the international observance, Mr. Bugti highlighted that Labour Day serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent value and dignity of diligence, integrity, and commitment. He affirmed that the Balochistan Government is actively implementing measures to uphold workers” rights and advance their overall well-being.

The Chief Minister stressed that providing superior employment opportunities, a secure occupational setting, and adequate amenities for the province”s workforce remains a paramount concern. He notably disclosed that, for the first time in Balochistan’s history, children of workers have been successfully enrolled in prestigious educational institutions nationwide.

Mr. Bugti further articulated a vision where a worker’s offspring would not be confined to the same profession but would instead be afforded every opportunity for upward mobility and progress. He urged collective endeavours to elevate the living standards of individuals in the workforce, asserting that International Labour Day conveys a vital message of eradicating exploitation and fostering a society built on principles of justice.
