Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers Urge Immediate Release of Funds for Upcoming Exhibition

Lahore: The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) has raised concerns over the delay in the approval of funds for the 42nd International Exhibition of Handmade Carpets, planned for October. The association is calling for the swift release of necessary funds to ensure timely preparations and to facilitate early engagement with foreign buyers.

According to Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the issue was discussed during a meeting led by PCMEA Chairman Mian Ateeq-ur-Rehman, with key members such as Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad in attendance. The meeting concluded with the confirmation of the exhibition dates, set for October 6 to 8, 2026.

The association highlighted that the event is critical for Pakistan's struggling export sector. During the meeting, Ateeq-ur-Rehman and Ahmad expressed that the delay in fund approval could hinder essential preparations, potentially impacting trade deals made during the exhibition. The association emphasized the necessity of prompt financial support to secure accommodations and hospitality for international buyers.

Additionally, the meeting addressed concerns regarding the 18 Pakistani exporters registered for an upcoming exhibition in China. The participants noted that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan has yet to release subsidies under the 80/20 formula, which could jeopardize the exporters' participation. The association also urged the government to announce subsidies for future exhibitions in Turkiye and Germany to allow for adequate preparation.

The stall fee for the Chinese exhibition is set at $1,200 per stall, excluding travel and freight costs. The delay in subsidy disbursement, according to the exporters, is complicating their participation, risking the loss of a significant platform for promoting Pakistani products internationally.
