The Chairman of Pakistan’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SECP), Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, has announced an important technological initiative today aimed at making investment in the capital market more accessible for all Pakistanis. By leveraging financial technology, Dr. Sidhu intends to simplify the investment process and boost investor confidence, with a focus on engaging young people through digital platforms.
Dr. Sidhu emphasized that the integration of digital technology in the stock market will make investment facilities accessible via mobile phones, making the process easier and safer for ordinary citizens. His ambitious target is to increase the number of investors in Pakistan’s capital market to 2.5 million, and SECP is actively implementing strategies to achieve this goal.
In a recent meeting with the Board of Directors and senior management of Pakistan Limited’s Central Depository Company, Dr. Sidhu reviewed the company’s operational performance, technical capabilities, and digital transformation efforts. The meeting also discussed CDC’s cyber security initiatives and business continuity plans.
CDC’s management updated Dr. Sidhu on the launch of the “Aasaan Connect Mobile App,” a new digital tool for easy participation in the stock market, which will be introduced in July. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide modern investment opportunities to the younger generation.
Furthermore, during the meeting, proposals for CDC’s strategic reorganization were also discussed, emphasizing the separation of its core depository functions from other services. This reorganization aims to improve governance and potentially facilitate the listing of the company’s services on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Dr. Sidhu appreciated CDC’s role in advancing Pakistan’s capital market, highlighting their technical expertise, strong governance, and collaboration with SECP. He assured that SECP will continue to support technological advancements and digital transformation efforts to make investment easier and safer for ordinary Pakistanis.
CDC’s CEO, Badruddin Akbar, further reinforced the institution’s commitment to enhancing market access and investor protection through ongoing technology projects. He confirmed a strong partnership with SECP to further modernize and develop Pakistan’s capital market.
