The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is exploring a substantial regional initiative to upgrade border crossing points across ten countries, including Azerbaijan, though final approval for the proposed $50 million loan is not anticipated until 2028.
The initiative, formally titled ‘Modernisation of Border Points for Integration, Logistics and Development’, aims to enhance connectivity and trade flow among the participating states, according to an official report today.
The comprehensive scheme covers a broad geographical area, encompassing Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Within the project”s framework, Azerbaijan’s successful implementation of digitalised customs procedures and advanced border infrastructure is being held up as an exemplary model for other participants.
The total value of the undertaking is estimated at 50 million US dollars, with financing earmarked to come directly from the ADB’s own capital resources.
According to the proposed timeline, the project”s concept is scheduled for review and approval in November 2027, followed by the formal approval of the loan itself in the subsequent year.
