Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) conducted a public awareness event, “Hope in High-Risk Pregnancy”. This initiative, led by the hospital”s Section of Maternal and Foetal Medicine, is part of an ongoing effort to address the complexities associated with high-risk pregnancies and to improve outcomes for both mothers and their babies.

The session, aimed at a diverse audience including couples contemplating pregnancy, expectant mothers, individuals with prior medical complications, and caregivers, served as an educational platform to discuss the challenges and necessary precautions for high-risk pregnancies. The gathering was informed about how to spot early warning signs, tackle medical and emotional hurdles, and make educated decisions under the guidance of healthcare experts.

Dr. Ayesha Malik, Section Head of Maternal and Foetal Medicine at AKUH, emphasized the importance of early detection and specialized care. “High-risk pregnancies require early identification and compassionate, specialised care,” she stated. Dr. Malik also highlighted the session”s role in empowering women and families with essential knowledge to manage these risks effectively.

The event featured a series of expert talks providing personalized advice on pregnancy management, emotional and physical health support, and optimal care for high-risk neonates. Additionally, participants engaged in a live Q and A with specialists, gaining direct insights into their concerns and queries.

In a bid to extend its reach, the hospital also offered free clinic consultations and foetal ultrasounds to lucky draw winners, ensuring that the benefits of the session were not just theoretical but practical as well.

The effort by AKUH underlines its commitment to advancing maternal and child health and ensuring that high-quality, preventive healthcare is accessible to everyone. This initiative is a testament to the hospital’s dedication to not only treating but also educating the community about critical health issues.
