In a joint effort to enhance economic cooperation, Pakistan and Indonesia have committed to improving their trade and investment relations. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, and Indonesian Ambassador Chandra Wasonanto Sukotyo at the Governor House Karachi today.
The discussions, which included Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, M.D. Zakir, and other officials, focused on enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Both countries expressed their commitment to increasing their trade volume and exploring new opportunities for economic partnership.
Governor Hashmi highlighted the potential of Pakistani exports in the global market, such as rice, mangoes, pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, and sports goods. He emphasized the importance of promoting rice internationally, including in Indonesia. He suggested that fostering direct links between private sectors, encouraging joint investments, and facilitating trade delegations could significantly boost exports. Hashmi stressed the need to transform historical and cultural ties into strong economic alliances.
Ambassador Sukotyo acknowledged the popularity of Pakistani products like rice, mangoes, medicines, surgical tools, and footballs in Indonesia. He pointed out that Pakistan sources nearly 90% of its palm oil from Indonesia, indicating substantial scope for enhancing trade, investment, and industrial cooperation. The ambassador reiterated his commitment to deepening economic relations with Pakistan.
The meeting concluded with Ambassador Sukotyo recording his impressions in the guest book at the Governor House, marking a step forward in the economic partnership between the two countries.
