Authorities directed to expedite BRT projects and resolve on-site delays

Sindh Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday directed authorities to resolve all field-level issues to prevent further delays in the city’s key Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects, stressing that all resources should be utilized to complete the work within the stipulated time.

This directive was issued during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by the senior minister, to conduct a detailed review of ongoing public transportation projects.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zaman, Trans Karachi CEO Fida Ghaffar Soomro, Yellow Line BRT Project Director Zamir Abbasi, and representatives of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA).

During the review, participants were informed that construction work on both sides of the Red Line BRT route near Nipa Chowrangi is near completion.

Regarding the Yellow Line, the project director stated that the demolition of the second track of the Senator Taj Haider Bridge is underway, while work on the other portion is set to begin soon.

Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) officials also briefed the minister on plans to launch more new electric vehicle (EV) buses and EV taxis in the city.

Mr. Memon further directed that the second phase of the Pink Scooties Scheme be launched immediately, and distribution ceremonies be organized in other cities along with Karachi.

The senior minister said that the Red and Yellow Line BRT projects will play a vital role in connecting the city’s key locations and business hubs.

He added that the development of any city is impossible without a modern urban transport system and the completion of these BRT projects will bring a significant improvement to Karachi’s public transit network.
