Thatta authorities have declared a war against the drug trade, branding the illicit substances a “poisonous killer” targeting the young generation and have vowed strict legal action against those involved in this “heinous and abominable business.”
The declaration was made during an anti-drug awareness rally held today, led by SSP Thatta Sajid Ameer Sadozai and Deputy Commissioner Thatta Sarmad Ali Bhagat. The rally commenced from Civil Hospital Thatta and proceeded to Government Boys Degree College Makli.
The event was attended by people from various walks of life, including officers of the Thatta police, medical professionals, civil society members, educationists, and other prominent figures. Participants carried banners and placards with various slogans for the prevention and eradication of drugs.
SSP Thatta highlighted the devastating effects of drug use, stressing that “‘Say no to drugs, love life’ should be our slogan.” He described drugs as a destructive force that ruins a person’s health, character, and the fabric of society, emphasizing, “We must collectively uproot this menace.”
Echoing the sentiment, Deputy Commissioner Thatta Sarmad Ali Bhagat stated, “We all must collectively create a drug-free, healthy, and aware society.” The officials, along with Focal Person Dental Surgeon Dr. Shyam Kumar, described the campaign as a significant step towards raising awareness among the youth and strengthening the national struggle against drugs.
The Senior Superintendent of Police emphasized that protecting the new generation from all forms of addiction is the collective moral and social responsibility of parents and the entire community.
He confirmed that police operations against drug traffickers are ongoing and appealed to the public to work “side by side with the police on a war footing” to combat this threat. He concluded, “With your help, Insha’Allah, we will make the Thatta district drug-free.”
