The Ayub Medical Teaching Institution (AMTI) is poised for a major overhaul after its Board of Governors approved a raft of critical upgrades, including the installation of a new CT scan machine near the emergency ward, a mandatory chaperone policy, and a substantial increase in the minimum wage for its support staff to Rs. 40,000.
The series of decisions, made during the 114th board meeting chaired by Prof. Abid Jamil, aims to significantly bolster patient care, staff welfare, and institutional governance. Among the key patient-centric moves is the provision of separate male and female staff for performing ultrasound and ECG services to ensure greater comfort and privacy.
Major infrastructural enhancements were also sanctioned to address the high patient load. The board green-lit the immediate expansion and renovation of the Emergency and Accident Department, the construction of a prefabricated triage building, and the establishment of 24-hour walk-in clinics designed to reduce pressure on the main emergency services. Planning for a new, modern emergency block was also initiated.
In a significant boost for employee morale and professional development, the board endorsed a complete service structure for paramedics. Other staff welfare measures include granting Sui gas connections for employees living in hospital flats and formally renaming Class IV employees as ‘Hospital Support Staff.’
To strengthen its medical teams, the institution authorized the creation of several new positions. These include a Senior Manager for Paramedics (BPS-19), an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, a Pediatric Emergency Specialist, and various other pediatric specialists, alongside several registrar posts.
On the operational front, the board ordered the immediate repair of the lithotripsy machine and instructed the Hospital Director to activate all tube wells to ensure a consistent water supply.
For enhanced accountability and transparency, the BOG sanctioned the hiring of a reputable external firm. This firm will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and auditing institutional affairs while also collecting patient feedback to drive continuous improvement in service delivery. Officials stated the decisions reflect the institution’s commitment to providing modern medical facilities and strengthening its human resources.
