Balochistan Orders High-Level Inquiry Into Deadly Attack on Mangi Dam Facility

The Balochistan government has established a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the militant attack on Pumping Station No. 3 of Mangi Dam in Ziarat district, assigning it to determine the sequence of events, identify those responsible for any security lapses and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.

According to an official report today, the attack took place on the night of July 6, 2026, causing fatalities and damaging key public infrastructure.

The provincial government said the investigation was necessary to establish the circumstances that led to the assault, assess whether there had been negligence or operational shortcomings, and propose steps to improve the protection of critical installations across the province.

The inquiry committee will be chaired by Muhammad Ali Kakar, Chairman of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT). Its members include the Secretary of the Services and General Administration Department (S and GAD), a senior Deputy Inspector General of Police nominated by the Inspector General of Police, Balochistan, and a representative of the Intelligence Bureau nominated by the agency’s Joint Director General.

Under its mandate, the panel will reconstruct the events before, during and after the attack, evaluate the deployment, preparedness and response of law enforcement agencies, and examine command, coordination and operational effectiveness. It will also determine whether any negligence, dereliction of duty, command failure or procedural lapse contributed to the incident.

The committee has also been instructed to review the adequacy of existing security arrangements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safeguarding the installation. It will identify individuals or institutions responsible for any deficiencies and recommend disciplinary, administrative or criminal action where warranted.
