The Ismaili Shia Muslim community on Sunday celebrated the 54th birthday of their 50th spiritual leader and Imam, Prince Rahim al-Husseini Aga Khan V, which is the first birthday after his ascension to the Imamat. On this occasion, celebrations were held throughout the world, including in Pakistan.
The day’s celebrations began in the morning with the Ismaili flag-hoisting ceremony. A special message from the new Imam, the Farman Mubarak, was also read out to the followers gathered in Ismaili Jamatkhanas.
Special prayers were offered for the security, prosperity, and peace of Pakistan. To mark the occasion, Ismaili places of worship were decorated, and communal dinners were arranged in several areas.
Prince Rahim al-Husseini Aga Khan had assumed the office of Imamat according to the will of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan, after his passing. This is the first birthday celebration since the new spiritual leader assumed his responsibilities.
