BoI delegation visiting Ottwa

An official delegation, led by Zulfiqar Ali, Additional Secretary of the Board of Investment (BoI), Government of Pakistan, is visiting Ottawa for negotiations on the draft Pakistan-Canada Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement/Bilateral Investment Treaty (FIPPA/BIT).

According to an official report today, the Pakistani delegation comprises senior officials from relevant departments responsible for trade, investment, and economic affairs.

At the opening session, Mr Jean Christian Brillant, Director General of the South Asia Bureau at Global Affairs Canada, welcomed the Pakistani delegation and expressed his hope for productive and constructive deliberations.

High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem underscored the commitment of both sides to conclude a high-quality investment regime. He also highlighted that the Government of Pakistan had undertaken several initiatives to improve the ease of doing business, including strengthening investor protection, establishing transparent dispute-prevention mechanisms, and enhancing regulatory coherence as key pillars of its broader economic reform agenda.

The Pakistani delegation will engage constructively with its Canadian counterparts to further strengthen bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation. The previous round of FIPPA/BIT negotiations was held in Islamabad in October 2025.
