Bus plunge near Gilgit claims 20 lives, injure 21

GILGIT: A tragic bus accident on Friday claimed the lives of 20 people and left 21 others wounded on Friday when the vehicle fell into a deep ravine in Diamer region near Gilgit.

The incident happened on the Karakoram Highway in the Yashukhaldas area of Diamer, as the bus, en route from Rawalpindi to Hunza, lost control, plummeting into the gorge.

Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, transporting the deceased and injured to a Chilas hospital. According to rescue sources, the death toll may rise as many of the wounded were in critical condition.

Authorities declared an emergency at the Chilas hospital following the accident. Faraq confirmed the casualty count and disclosed that the bus was carrying over 35 passengers bound for Hunza.
