A bomb blast in the Chamrok area of Khuzdar, Balochistan, claimed the life of a senior journalist and left nine others injured on Friday, marking a tragic turn of events on World Press Freedom Day.
The victim, identified as Maulana Muhammad Siddique Mengal, was the president of the Khuzdar Press Club, according to local police officials. The explosion, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) remotely detonated by unidentified assailants, targeted a vehicle in the vicinity.
Authorities rushed the deceased journalist’s body to a morgue for autopsy, while the injured received urgent medical attention at a nearby hospital.
In response to the incident, law enforcement agencies swiftly cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation to gather evidence at the blast site.
