Call to save forests, trees from cutters

LARKANA:The members of Green Stars and Kung Fu Association, Larkana, took out a rally and held a protest demonstration at Jinnah Bagh here on Sunday.

The participants were holding saplings in their hands demanding halt to cutting trees across the country, specially from forests, to save the land from environmental pollution.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders Zulfiqar Magsi, Amanullah Bhutto, Aijaz Mugheri, and Maqbool Soomro said that trees and forests are most essential for livestock, birds and wildlife as they provided shelter to them and due to their cutting by habitual wood traders, entire atmosphere had been highly polluted and temperature had increased alarmingly.

They said cutting trees on a massive scale would only bring destruction which should be stopped immediately and be made a criminal offence. They said chopping trees was continuing in various parts of Sindh including Ketty Bunder region, coastal areas, riverine areas of Larkana and Khairpur and some parts of Tharparkar, which must be curbed forthwith and offenders be taken to task.

The leaders said the Sindh Forest Department was constantly sleeping as it had not yet been able to retrieve its occupied government land despite apex court order. They said that the lives of cattle would also become very hard if jungles were not saved and trees are not planted on a massive scale everywhere. They demanded of the rulers to take immediate actions to save forests and trees across the country, specially in Sindh.
