The federal capital has been ranked as one of the world’s safest urban centres, surpassing cities like London, New York, and Paris, according to the Numbeo public safety index. This announcement coincides with an Islamabad Police report detailing a substantial 23 percent overall reduction in crime between January 2024 and December 2025.
According to a report today, the annual performance review for 2025, presented to the Justice Committee under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, outlined significant improvements in the city”s law and order situation. The committee acknowledged and appreciated the force’s overall performance.
According to the report, crime-related calls to the “Pucar-15” helpline decreased by 32 percent. In targeted operations throughout 2025, law enforcement agencies apprehended 1,552 court absconders, 2,062 proclaimed offenders, and 990 habitual criminals.
Authorities recovered stolen property valued at Rs. 536 million during the year, arresting 1,395 individuals in connection with 1,594 registered cases.
A crackdown on the illegal possession of firearms resulted in the arrest of 2,375 accused individuals and the registration of 2,336 cases. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was seized in these operations.
In anti-narcotics efforts, 1,889 accused were detained, and significant quantities of hashish, heroin, ice, opium, and liquor were confiscated. The police also took effective action against social offences, including kite flying and begging.
Throughout 2025, the force successfully resolved numerous high-profile cases involving terrorism, murder, kidnapping, and robbery, arresting the suspects and submitting charge-sheets to the relevant courts.
Advanced technological integration played a crucial role in these achievements. The use of digital surveillance, AI-based software, Hotel Eye and Travel Eye systems, and data analysis from Safe City Islamabad contributed to a crime reduction of up to 70 percent in designated hotspots.
Security infrastructure has been upgraded with the establishment of modern checkpoints equipped with automated number plate and facial recognition cameras. Officers have been supplied with body-worn cameras and contemporary wireless communication systems to improve both security and traffic management.
The report also highlighted progress on the Federal Prison Islamabad, with 76 percent of construction work completed. The facility is expected to be fully operational in 2026, and its first Superintendent of Prisons has been appointed.
On the public service front, over 739,000 citizens utilised services at the 13 Khidmat Markaz centres. The Online Women Police Station continued its 24/7 operations to provide protection and support for women.
Additionally, the police force ensured robust security arrangements for 351 VVIP movements, parliamentary sessions, protests, and thousands of national and international events, maintaining uninterrupted civic and commercial activity across the capital.
