Call to set up wheat procurement centers

LARKANA:Fresh wheat crop is being harvested across Sindh, but provincial government has neither distributed Bardana nor they are ready to buy it at government rates due to which growers and farmers are forced to sell their produce to traders at cheaper rates.

This was stated by central president, Sindhi Hari Tahreek, Dr. Dildar Laghari, general secretary Anwar Rind, Comrade Ghulam Mustafa Chandio and others in a statement here on Sunday. They said unlawful deduction of two to three kg per 40 kg was also being made by the traders which had complicated the situation.

They said people of Sindh were already extremely worried in lockdown due to unemployment and their children were facing hunger and starvation. They demanded immediate establishment of food department procurement centers across Sindh.

Complete lockdown observed in Umerkot to fight coronavirus

Umerkot:A complete lockdown was observed in Umerkot to fight the coronavirus on Sunday as the police raided different areas to tighten the lockdown. All business and social activities remained standstill while bazaars and markets remained completely closed in the city. The citizens faced problems in earning livelihood. Only retail shops were opened to provide necessary daily use items to the citizens.

Sindh government offices and educational institutes, including private, remained closed. Police and Rangers have been deployed across the city to ensure the lockdown. A low number of motorcycles, cars and other vehicles were seen plying the roads for necessary works. The hospitals and medical stores however remained open to cater to the needs to patients.

The laborers community has badly been affected by the lockdown and they need urgent relief goods, including ration, to feed their children. A large public gatherings, weddings and congregations, conferences and other events have also been banned in the city.

Millions of people have been forced to stay homes across Pakistan following a lockdown to fight coronavirus cases. Streets were deserted, public transport, offices, parks, and other public spots remained closed in all the four provinces today. The government also announced suspension of railway operations across the country besides halting international flights to control the virus.

Irate man kills two brothers over property dispute

Darya Khan Marri:An irate man killed his two real brothers over a dispute in Darya Khan Marri on Sunday.

Accused Nadeem Waraich developed a dispute with his brothers Abdul Razaq Waraich and Naju Waraich over a property and shot them dead in village Larr near Darya Khan Marri. The accused fled to unknown destination after swift operation.

Police rushed to the scene, shifted the bodies to a local hospital for autopsies and later handed over to the heirs. The police could not register the case till filing this report. However, they said that the investigation into the incident was underway while the accused would soon be arrested.”

Two killed, one injured as two trailers collide on Motorway

GHOTKI:Two people were killed and one other injured when two trailers collided on Motorway near Ghotki on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, the impact of collision was so severe that its sound was heard far away. Two trailers collided on Motorway within the limits of B-Section Police Ghotki. As a result, a driver, Imdad Rind and Javed Ahmed were killed while Sagheer Ahmed was injured.

The bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Ghotki for medico-legal formalities and treatment, respectively. The case could not be filed till filing this report.

Man, his wife, minor son burnt to death

JHUDO:A man, his wife and their minor son were burnt to death in a fire at their house near Jhudo town on Saturday. A spark from a stove fire touched a motorcycle that caused inferno in the house of Urs Otho in village Dost Muhammad Otho.

The fire engulfed the house in a short span of time. as a result, Urs Otho, 30, his wife Shamshad and his son, 5, were burnt to death. However, a two-year girl was saved. All the goods and valuables in the house were reduced to ashes in the fire. The incident created mourning atmosphere at the village.

Three new COVID-19 local transmission cases detected in Larkana

LARKANA:Three new COVID-19 positive cases were detected at the quarantine centre of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, here on Saturday. According to a member of the Task Force, two new coronavirus cases were a woman of Galib Nagar, wife of the man who was detected positive and then shifted to Dow University Hospital, Karachi, and another influential government officer of Sami Abad.

The third include the pilgrim who underwent a 14-day quarantine period at the SMBBMU’s Areeja Centre and his test was conducted in which he again was tested positive. He was shifted to Isolation Ward of the Chandka Medical College Hospital.

These sources said that eight positive cases are still in the SMBBMU quarantine centre who were detected positive earlier. With the addition of these cases the number of positive cases has jumped to 16 excluding the one who was sent to Karachi for treatment and quarantine, these sources claimed. These sources further claimed that out of 16 positive cases eight people have so far been cured. Sources said that two new cases detected today are through local transmission.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ershad Hussain Kazmi, Medical Superintendent (MS), Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said that with the arrival of one more patient the number of total coronavirus positive patients at the Isolation Ward had reach three as two positive cases were already isolated at the ward where Dr. Altaf Hussain Jokhio, CMCH Deputy Medical Superintendent, has been posted as Focal Person.

On the other hand, three suspected cases emerged in Golimar Street of Allahabad here on Saturday and they all went in self quarantine. Samples of all three suspected cases will be collected on Sunday. They had returned from Hyderabad few days ago and were having the symptoms of fever, cough, asthma and flu.

Meanwhile, Principal, Chandka Medical College and Incharge COVID-19 Control Room, SMBBMU, Prof. Dr. K. Das, through a notification has posted six senior doctors and administrative officials to supervise the working of COVID-19 Control Room (as Focal Persons) which has been established at Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat, on shift basis.

They include Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Professor of Pharmacology and Dr. Abdul Rauf Khaskheli, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy in morning shift. Prof. Dr, Muhammad Saleem Shaikh, Professor of Surgery and Mr. Asghar Ali Bhutto, Deputy Director, Human Resources in evening shift and Dr. Muhammad Ali Napar, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Ashfaque Bhutto, Demonstrator/Lecturer in the night shift.

The Focal Person will ensure proper execution and timely coordination with District Health Officer (DHO), CMCH MS and deputy commissioner. He will also ensure and monitor sample collection of suspected patients, provision of PPEs to doctors and staff with coordination of DHO and others and daily reporting for onward submission to relevant authorities.

Three girls drown into pond near Sukkur

Sukkur:Three minor girls drowned into a pond near here on Saturday.

They said these girls were washing clothes at a pond near Tarai area and one of the girls fell into the pond after her foot slipped. Two other girls jumped into the pond to rescue here. However, sadly all three girls drowned.

Later, their bodies were recovered and handed over to relatives. The victims were identified as Naseeban, Gulzaran and Khadeja. They were aged about eight years.
