Pakistan wants peace, will never compromise on sovereignty: Rashid

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said 20 politicians, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, have serious life threats. Talking to media in Islamabad today (Monday), he said some of these politicians have already survived of life attacks in past. He said Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been conveyed of this threat.

The Interior Minister also urged the opposition to stay away from mass gatherings in view of spike in COVID cases. He said the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia have called off their flight operation and in view of this it is suggested that Pakistan should also stop its flights to and from London.

Sheikh Rashid expressed the belief that opposition’s alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement will participate in Senate elections as parliament is the right forum to resolve issues. Answering a question, the Minister said a befitting response will be given to India if it goes for any misadventure. He said Pakistan wants peace, but it will never compromise on its sovereignty.

No planned gas load shedding in country: Petroleum Division

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Petroleum Division has said there is no planned gas load shedding anywhere in the country for domestic, commercial or industrial sector. According to a statement of Petroleum Division’s Spokesperson on Monday, isolated complaints of low gas pressure are being attended actively.

With reference to a press report today, it stated that one LNG cargo that was scheduled to arrive on 18th December was delayed at loading port and is now scheduled to arrive today. This will allow the two sui companies to further enhance the supplies from tomorrow which is expected to improve the system pressure.

President emphasizes on combination of morality, knowledge for Muslims to grow in world

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Dr. Arif Alvi has emphasized on a combination of morality and knowledge for Muslims to grow in the world. Addressing the inaugural session of the Global Al-Farabi Forum in Islamabad on Monday, he said the future looks to Muslims, but they need to work hard and ensure that people are educated and healthy. The President said we should go to the principles of Al-Farabi, which are quite relevant even today.

He said the world is not looking for morality, but Muslims are looking for morality, and they can bring about a change with the strength of ethics and knowledge. He regretted that Muslims are in misery in Kashmir, Palestine and Rohingya. The President said Muslims need to move along with the fast pace of science and technology.

He said Artificial Intelligence has alarmingly increased the pace of knowledge. He urged the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC to play its role in imparting contemporary knowledge to youth of Muslim Ummah.

Praising Muslim philosophers, the President said it was the Muslim era which brought the old Greek philosophy to the modern world. Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Secretary General for Science and Technology Affairs within the Asian Group OIC Ambassador Askar Mussinov said Islam gives great importance to knowledge and science as its first injunctions begin with “Iqra”.

He said contribution of Muslims scholars to the modern science is enormous and pioneered in many branches of science. The Ambassador said OIC’s focus is on improving quality of curriculum to transform the universities of the member states into center of excellence.

Pakistan gives dossier of Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan to International World: Foreign Minister

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan has given the dossier regarding Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan to the International World. Addressing media in Multan on Monday, he said that Pakistan will take decisions according to its own interests. He said that India always tried to harm Pakistan whenever it got the chance.

He said that India has made discriminatory laws for Minorities due to which minorities residing in India are in deep trouble. While talking about his recent visit, he added that Pakistan shares cordial relations with UAE and Saudi Arabia so they believe that India cannot be the alternate of Pakistan.

He said that he listened and understood UAE stance regarding establishing ties with Israel. He maintained that Pakistan has developed uniform policy regarding establishing ties with Israel that it will not recognize Israel until a peaceful solution of Palestine. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that PDM is divided regarding giving resignations from the National and Provincial Assemblies.

Naval Chief, Sri Lankan High Commissioner discuss maritime security situation

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan Vice Admiral (retired) Mohan Wijewickrama called on Naval Chief Amjad Khan Niazi in Islamabad on Monday. The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral cooperation in maritime domain. They also discussed maritime security situation in the region.

PIA cancels its flights to Saudi Arabia

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), consequent to Saudi government’s decision of a week-long suspension of all international flights, has announced to cancel its flights scheduled for today to different destinations in Saudi Arabia. Talking to media in Karachi, PIA spokesman, Abdullah Khan said it is due to resurgence of COVID-19, that flights are being stopped and duration of this suspension may be further extended.

He said national flag carrier decided to cancel its flight Nos. PK-9739 and PK-9760 from Multan and Lahore to Jeddah. Moreover, those on routes Lahore-Jeddah-Lahore, Islamabad-Dammam-Islamabad, Lahore-Dammam-Lahore and Karachi-Medina-Karachi have also been cancelled.

He said flights from Lahore to Medina, Medina to Karachi, Madina to Multan and Karachi-Jeddah-Karachi are also suspended. He said that these flights would remain cancelled till Saudi Arabia opens their airspace for international flights. He advised passengers to contact concerned PIA officials via 786-786-111 for their queries and needed guidance besides getting registered their correct contact numbers, through PIA call centers, so that they may be kept updated about flight status.

PML-N Senator Kalsoom Parveen passes away due to COVID-19

Islamabad, December 21, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Senator Kalsoom Parveen. Kalsoom Parveen, a PML-N Senator from Balochistan, has passed away due to Coronavirus in Islamabad. In a statement, the President prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.

Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala, Leader of the House in the Senate Dr. Shahzad Waseem and the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq also expressed condolence over the death of Senator Kalsoom Parveen. In a statement, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani said she did not only serve the people in underdeveloped areas of Balochistan but also played an important role in Pakistani politics.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also expressed grief and sorrow over passing of Kalsoom Parveen. In his tweet, Senator Shibli Faraz said Kalsoom Parveen was an active member of the Senate, having progressive thinking. He said she became a strong voice for the people of Balochistan. He prayed may Allah Almighty grant the departed soul highest ranks in Jannah and patience to the bereaved family.
