CDA Takes Action: Islamabad to Get Three State-of-the-Art Graveyards

In a crucial move to address the pressing burial space shortage, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday unveiled plans to construct three new graveyards across Islamabad. The decision, made during a pivotal meeting at the CDA Headquarters, aims to accommodate the city’s expanding population’s burial needs.

The gathering, led by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, included key figures such as CDA Board Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza and Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, alongside other senior officials. They evaluated land allocations for these essential facilities, guided by directives from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The newly designated sites include 800 kanals in Pandorian, 200 kanals in Malpur, and over 10 kanals in Humak, strategically chosen to serve both urban and rural communities in the capital. These model graveyards are set to feature comprehensive amenities, including boundary walls, walkways, funeral halls, and areas for ritual preparations, ensuring international standards are met.

Chairman Randhawa emphasized the urgency of commencing development work, underscoring the importance of adhering to global benchmarks. The initiative also includes plans to upgrade existing graveyards with enhanced security, lighting, and accessibility features.

In a bid to further ease logistical burdens on residents, the CDA will introduce a complimentary electric funeral bus service, facilitating the transport of deceased individuals. The Chairman assured that this development marks a significant step towards fulfilling the long-term needs of Islamabad’s residents, providing exemplary facilities and services.
