In a significant move to address traffic issues in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday approved Rs1 billion for constructing an underpass at the Korangi Causeway Bridge.
This development, aimed at easing traffic flow from Korangi Causeway and CBM Road, was discussed during a review meeting at CM House.
During the meeting, attended by key officials, including Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the chief minister endorsed the proposed design for a centralised roundabout, which will be refined based on site conditions.
Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani provided insights into the Korangi Causeway project, detailing its Rs9.3 billion cost and ongoing construction efforts, including developments at the 3000 Korangi Intersection.
In addition to the Korangi project, Shah granted technical clearance for a flyover near Sammo Goth on Shahrah-e-Bhutto, instructing the Planning and Development Department to expedite approvals and commence construction.
Addressing traffic congestion at Sohrab Goth, the chief minister tasked the P and D Department to develop a solution involving roundabout remodelling and enhanced access roads from key areas like the Lyari Expressway and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Shah urged collaboration between the P and D and local government departments to provide a comprehensive plan for effective decision-making.
