CS orders release Rs3m to each DC in rain-affected districts

KARACHI: An important meeting regarding the situation after the recent rains was held at Sindh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput at Sindh Secretariat on Thursday.

All Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, concerned Secretaries and Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority participated in the meeting. In the meeting, all Divisional Commissioners informed about the situation and said that more than 220mm of rain had fallen in the last 24 hours. They further informed that the rain had caused loss of life and property of the people.

In the meeting, Rajput decided to immediately release Rs 3 million to each Deputy Commissioner of the affected districts for immediate relief work. He directed the finance secretary to release the funds to all the districts today to ensure relief camps, provision of food, mosquito nets and other necessary items.

The Chief Secretary Sindh further said that rain-affected people should be provided with ration, tents and other needs. “Where the situation is worse, use school buildings to shelter rain-affected people till the situation in normal,” he said.

Rajput said that infrastructure and agriculture had been greatly damaged due to unusual rain in the province. He directed divisional commissioners to submit a report in this regard. The Sindh Chief Secretary directed the health department to ensure that medicines for gastro and other diseases should be ensured in the rain affected areas.
