Dar denounces situations in Kashmir and Palestine

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar today issued a sharp condemnation of the situations in Kashmir and Palestine on United Nations Day, declaring that Gaza has become a “graveyard for our shared humanity” and citing the “brutal repression” in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In his message, Dar stated that the ideals of international law and self-determination affirmed in the UN Charter continue to be violated with impunity, highlighting the two regions as the most egregious examples.

He asserted that the “legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people for self-determination,” which are supported by relevant UN Security Council resolutions, are continuously being denied.

While delivering this critique, the foreign minister also reaffirmed Pakistan”s unwavering commitment to multilateralism on the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter. He expressed that Pakistan stands prepared to work with fellow UN member states and the United Nations system to reinvigorate the Charter”s promise of peace, development, and human dignity for all.

“Guided by the vision of our nation”s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan”s foreign policy is firmly rooted in the UN Charter”s principles,” Dar explained, citing the sovereign equality of states, the right to self-determination, and the peaceful settlement of disputes as core tenets.

He underscored Pakistan”s long history of active engagement with the UN, noting its role as one of the top Troop-Contributing Countries to UN peace operations since 1960 and as host to one of the oldest peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Looking forward, Ishaq Dar affirmed that as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term, Pakistan remains dedicated to fostering a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world.

He concluded by pointing to Pakistan”s reputation as a “consensus builder,” which enables the country to work towards outcomes that reflect the aspirations of the wider UN membership.
