Renowned writer, analyst, and former nationalist political leader, Barrister Hamid Bhashani, passed away after a prolonged illness. As per his will, his bodily organs will be donated to those in need.
Hamid Bhashani was considered a proponent of the ideology of autonomy and freedom. He was an associate of the martyred Maqbool Butt and followed in the footsteps of his elder brother, the late Irshad Khan. During his student years, he was associated with the Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation and later formed his own organization, NDP. He also served in the Jammu Kashmir People’s National Party and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Rashid Hasrat Group.
Subsequently, Hamid Bhashani moved to Canada, where he pursued a Bar-at-Law and made law his profession. He remained associated as a columnist with a well-known Urdu newspaper until his death.
Hamid Bhashani was the eldest son of Lala Azam, the right-hand man of former President of the State, Yaqoob Khan, and the nephew of prominent political figure Javed Nisar Advocate. Following his death, a large number of people gathered at his residence in Calgary.
Senior Kashmiri leaders Raja Muzaffar, Mumtaz Khan Advocate, Sagheer Hassan, Dr. Sagheer Mahtab Khan, Sabir Kashmiri Advocate, Dr. Anwar, Sabir Gul, and Anwar Iqbal have termed Hamid Bhashani’s death a national loss.
