A principal decision has been made to establish the first international airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

To counter the Joint Action Committee movement, higher authorities have approved the airport and the preparation of the feasibility report has begun, according to a statement from the Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a report said today.

The Joint Action Committee, formed by pro-freedom groups in Azad Kashmir, raised the demand for the airport at an international level and set a deadline of May 10. Before this deadline, a location in Mirpur will be selected and a notification will be issued.

According to sources, members of parliament related to Kashmir residing in the UK have sent a letter to the Government of Pakistan demanding the immediate establishment of an international airport in Mirpur.

High-ranking officials have decided that the construction of an international airport at Mirpur in Azad Kashmir should commence soon. Before this construction, the completion of the Mirpur-Poonch-Kotli-Muzaffarabad highway under the CPEC project is planned so that people from all districts can benefit from the airport.

Sources indicated that before May 13, the first anniversary of the martyrs of the Action Committee movement, an official notification for the establishment of Azad Kashmir’s first international airport will be issued, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shehbaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone at the approved location.
