Acting Chairman of the Senate, Syedaal Khan, has issued a powerful statement on the symbiotic relationship between a free press and a functioning government, declaring that democracy and journalism have always been inseparable partners in strengthening parliamentary traditions and promoting transparency.

The remarks were part of a congratulatory message sent to the newly elected leadership of the Parliamentary Reporters Association of Pakistan (PRAP). Syedaal Khan extended his warm felicitations to President M.B. Soomro, Vice President Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar, and Secretary Naveed Akbar on their recent electoral success.

He also congratulated Joint Secretary Aurangzeb Kakar, Finance Secretary Shakir Abbasi, and Information Secretary Javed Hussain. The Acting Chairman further acknowledged the newly chosen governing body members: Asiya Ansar, Ahmad Nawaz Khan, Hafiz Abdul Majid, Umer Hayat Khan, Javed Noor, Ghulam Rasool Kunbhar, and Rozeena Ali.

Underscoring the critical function of the media within the legislative system, he remarked, ‘The Press Gallery is an integral part of Parliament.’ He stated that parliamentary reporters are essential for bringing the legislative process closer to the populace, adding that the true spirit of democracy flourishes only when independent journalism is promoted.

The Acting Chairman articulated his hope that the new PRAP leadership would effectively address the challenges confronting parliamentary journalists and continue to enhance their professional contributions to the nation.

Pledging the complete cooperation of the Senate Secretariat, Syedaal Khan noted the historically close working relationship between the Upper House and PRAP, expressing confidence that this bond will continue to grow stronger.
