Islamabad: The dengue fever continued to grip the masses across the country as the fever caused by the dengue mosquito spreading fast and adding a huge pressure on the alrerady inadequate health system in the country on Monday.
57 dengue cases, one death reported from Islamabad:
As many as 57 new cases of dengue and one death were reported from Islamabad during the last 24 hours.
According to the district health officer (DHO), out of 57 new cases, 12 were reported from the city while 45 from the suburban villages. “With one more death, the total number of people dying from the virus has now reached five,” he said, adding, “Total 1, 388 infections have been reported from the federal capital and its outskirts this season.”
The DHO informed that presently there were 532 dengue patients in the city. “As many as 194 patients are admitted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), 45 at Polyclinic and 25 at Capital Hospital,” he disclosed.
152 dengue cases detected in Punjab:
On the other hand, total 152 cases of dengue were reported from Punjab during the last 24 hours.
According to the statistics released by the Department of Primary and Secondary Healthcare, out of these 152 cases, 71 were reported from Rawalpindi, 47 from Lahore, 12 from Gujranwala, three each from Kasur, Vehari and Sheikhupura, two each from Multan, Narowal and Sahiwal and one case each from Layyah, Rajanpur, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Chakwal, Nankana Sahib and Sialkot. “Total 3,437 cases of the virus have been detected in different parts of the province this season alone while four deaths have been reported. So far Lahore has reported 1,384 cases,” Secretary Health Irshad Ahmed explained to media.
He disclosed that 152 patients are currently admitted to the provincial capital hospitals.
The secretary informed that the department had taken a number of steps to stop the spread of the virus. “These also include eliminating the larvae right in the beginning,” he said.
He went on to add that the health department teams had checked 266,594 indoor and 75,780 outdoor places during the last 24 hours. “Out of these places, larvae were eliminated at 1,925 places,” he elaborated.
Secretary appealed to people to take precautionary measures. “Just like you protect yourself against the coronavirus, in the same way you should guard yourself against dengue. Keep your surroundings clean, and don’t let water to get accumulated inside and outside of your homes,” he advised.
Isolation wards set up at Khyber hospitals:
The administration of Khyber district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) set up dengue wards at all hospitals of the district.
“So far 1, 000 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the district this season, while three fatalities have been reported,” Deputy Commissioner Shah Fahd told media.
