Deserving Christians to get aid cheques on Christmas

KARACHI: Sindh Non-Muslim Welfare Committee on Friday decided to give the financial assistance cheques to deserving Christian community members before December 25 on the occasion of Christmas.

The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chair of Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs Giyanchand Essrani. The meeting also approved to set up a sub-committee on the matter of holding scholarship tests under IBA Sukkur for meritorious students from the Minorities Community.

The sub-committee will submit its recommendations on the matter in the next meeting. The Non-Muslim Welfare Committee also approved 165 new development schemes. In the meeting, the Minorities Department Presented a survey of worship places affected by the recent rains and floods in which 255 places of worship have been identified.

Essarani advised all the members of the committee to submit the list of affected places of worship in their respective areas and said that the department has completed the survey. Schemes will be prepared soon for the repair of these places of worship. However, the committee members should check in their respective areas to ensure that no affected places of worship missed out.

He said that the schemes of the affected places of worship will be prepared soon and the summary will be sent to the Sindh Chief Minister for approval. He said that the scholarship matter should be decided on time so that students can get scholarships before the end of the financial year.

In the meeting, Senator Krishna Kumari, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh Surender Valasai, Special Assistant Dr. Khatu Mal Jeevan, MPA Rana Hameer Singh, MPA Anthony Naveed, MPA Mangala Sharma, Engineer Giyanchand, Roma Matto, Kamla Bai, Ramesh Lal, Prashotham Ramani, Krishan Sagar, Hiranand, Ramesh Kumar Rathore, Komal, Secretary Minorities Affairs Department Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Director Minorities Affairs Mahesh Lal Dodani and others attended the meeting.
