Diplomatic- OIC Backs Kashmir Self-Determination, Condemns India’s Actions

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today strongly reiterated its support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as outlined in UN resolutions.

The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, meeting in New York with the Secretary General presiding, also confirmed its previous statements and resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The group expressed unity with the Pakistani government and its citizens, voicing serious apprehension regarding the recent military escalation in South Asia. They welcomed the ceasefire implemented after the military clash.

The contact group highlighted that certain Indian leaders” unfounded assertions and reckless pronouncements about Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan endanger regional stability. They denounced the continued imprisonment of numerous Kashmiri political activists, dissidents, and human rights advocates. The prohibition of several Kashmiri political organizations and the ongoing seizure of assets belonging to Kashmiri activists also drew condemnation.

The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir called upon India to enhance the human rights conditions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They urged the release of all Kashmiri political detainees, the lifting of bans on outlawed Kashmiri political groups, and the revocation of restrictive laws. The implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir was also emphasized.
