Diplomatic Relations, Development Efforts – PM lauds Prince Aga Khan-V’s commitment to fostering peace

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif today hosted a breakfast meeting in honor of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, on the occasion of his first official visit to Pakistan.

The Prime Minister lauded the enduring collaboration between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). He praised AKDN’s significant contributions in areas such as rural development, healthcare, education, disaster resilience, climate adaptation, renewable energy, digital skills training, and youth entrepreneurship.

Prime Minister Sharif specifically acknowledged AKDN’s impactful work in the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, focusing on remote and vulnerable communities. He urged AKDN to deepen its engagement in these areas, where its presence is greatly valued, and extended a warm welcome for increased collaboration with the Aga Khan University, appreciating its role in healthcare and higher education.

Acknowledging Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s environmental advocacy, the Prime Minister emphasised AKDN as a vital ally in bolstering Pakistan’s climate resilience, especially in glacially sensitive northern regions.

Expressing gratitude for the Prince”s visit, the Prime Minister assured that Pakistan would always be a second home for him, hoping his regular visits would fortify the ties between Pakistan and the Ismaili community.

Additionally, the Prime Minister extended thanks for the Prince’s generosity in providing the Serena Hotel for Islamabad Talks at no cost. He also offered condolences on the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, praising his humanitarian contributions and longstanding association with Pakistan.

Concluding the meeting, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to continuing collaboration with Pakistan on various human development projects.
