Dow University of Health Sciences today organised a rally and a series of speech competitions to mark Kashmir Day, where speakers described the dispute as a significant humanitarian issue requiring global attention to address alleged human rights violations.
Led by Dr. Uzma Bukhari, Principal of Dow International Medical College, the demonstration commenced at the college”s main gate. The procession, including a large contingent of faculty, non-teaching staff, and students, proceeded past the Dow Cancer Care Centre and concluded at the main cafeteria.
Participants carried Kashmiri flags and banners highlighting the situation in the region, chanting slogans such as ‘Kashmir Banega Pakistan,’ ‘Kashmiriyon Se Rishta Kya, La Ilaha Illallah,’ and ‘Pakistan Zindabad.’
Addressing the assembly as the chief guest, Dr. Bukhari stated that the 5th of February is a reminder of the moral responsibility to stand with the people of Kashmir. She emphasised that Pakistan seeks a resolution to the conflict in line with international justice, describing Kashmir as the ‘unfinished agenda of the partition of the subcontinent.’
Following the rally, speech competitions were held where students expressed their views. The speakers contended that the right to self-determination is a fundamental birthright for Kashmiris under international principles, not a charity or concession. They asserted that the Kashmiri struggle would ultimately succeed and that Pakistan would continue its support until victory is achieved.
In the competitions, Abdul Rehman from Dow International Medical College secured first position in the Urdu speech category, while Jemaima Kashif from Dow College of Pharmacy won the top prize in the English speech category.
