Earthquake jolts Balochistan’s Kalat region

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale jolted Kalat and adjoining areas on Sunday. No loss of life or property was reported from the quake.

According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the depth of earthquake was recorded at 33 kilometres. There was no report of deaths or injuries despite the high intensity the quake. Media reported no damages to private or official property in the area.

However, as per reports, people came out of their homes in panic following jolts. They started praying and reciting verses from the Quran.

Earlier, tremors were felt in Balochistan’s Sibi city and surrounding areas on Friday. The magnitude of earthquake was recorded at 4.7, with a depth of 18 kilometres.

Pakistan has experienced multiple tremors recently, including a 4.2-magnitude quake in Swat on December 24 and tremors in Punjab cities on December 5. On October 12, an earthquake of 3.9-magnitude on the Richter scale hit Khuzdar and adjoining areas.
