Frequent and prolonged closures of the Pak-Afghan border crossing at Chaman have triggered significant socio-economic distress, including severe financial losses for merchants, disruptions to the export of perishable goods, and mounting unemployment, according to local stakeholders.
According to official information today, these pressing concerns were formally presented during a high-level consultative session in the capital, chaired by Mr. Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, the Prime Minister”s Coordinator on Commerce. Delegates included community leaders, business representatives from Chaman District, and officials from the Chaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In response to the grievances, the Coordinator acknowledged the severity of the issues raised by the assembly of representatives, emphasizing that resolving the difficulties faced by Chaman”s populace is a key priority for the administration.
Mr. Khan assured the attendees that the matters discussed would be escalated to the appropriate national and bilateral forums to formulate sustainable solutions. The government aims to establish predictable, transparent, and efficient border management protocols that carefully balance national security imperatives with the needs of legitimate commerce.
