ISLAMABAD:The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday reserved its verdict in the much delayed prohibited funding case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

It may recalled here that the prohibited funding case had previously been referred to as the foreign funding case. The case was heard by a three-member bench of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

While reserving the verdict, the CEC noted that the ECP also wanted to conclude the similar cases against other political parties. He said the ECP wanted to restore the voter confidence and strengthen the country democratically. Before reserving the verdict, the CEC said that the respondents could be summoned by the ECP again if needed.

The prohibited funding case against PTI was filed by its (PTI) founding member Akbar S Babar in 2014. Akbar S. Babar, who is no longer associated with PTI, had alleged serious financial irregularities in the PTI’s funding from Pakistan and abroad.
