Emirates airline today signaled a potential future upgrade for Pakistani travelers by showcasing its retrofitted Boeing 777, featuring the new Premium Economy cabin, at Jinnah International Airport. The display, part of the airline’s 40th-anniversary celebration of its services to Karachi, offered a glimpse into a more luxurious travel class that could eventually be introduced on local routes.
The special flight, operating as EK600 in a nod to the inaugural service four decades ago, arrived in Karachi for a special preview. The event provided a walkthrough for distinguished guests, including government officials, aviation industry stakeholders, and media representatives, to experience the reconfigured four-class aircraft.
In attendance at the commemorative event were Consul General of the UAE, H.E. Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi, alongside local dignitaries from civil aviation and airport authorities. They were hosted by Emirates’ Vice President for Pakistan, Mohammed Alhashmi.
“Karachi holds a special place in Emirates” history as the first international destinations where Emirates made its maiden trip from its hub in Dubai,” said Mohammed Alhashmi. “Over the past 40 years, we have proudly connected Pakistan to the world, supporting travellers, businesses and communities. In our commitment to the country, we have also contributed to the growth of the country’s aviation sector and economy.”
Looking forward, Alhashmi added, “We continue to enhance the customer experience in line with the ever-changing travel trends, and we hope to introduce our award-winning Premium Economy cabins to Karachi in future. Emirates Premium Economy has revolutionized travel for a growing segment of travellers looking to enhance their flying experience.”
Over the last four decades, the airline has transported over 19 million passengers on more than 87,000 flights between Dubai and Karachi. Across its five destinations in Pakistan, Emirates has carried a total of 36 million passengers on 146,000 flights. The carrier also facilitates significant trade, moving over 73,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Pakistan annually.
With three daily flights from Karachi, Emirates connects the city to a global network. Popular destinations for local travelers include Jeddah, Toronto, London, New York, and Melbourne, with strong feeder markets from points such as Bangkok, Dammam, and Sydney.
The new Premium Economy cabin is designed to offer a significant upgrade from the standard Economy Class. It features spacious, reclining leather seats with full leg and footrests, adjustable headrests, and a wood-finished side cocktail table.
Further enhancements for travelers include in-seat charging points and a 13.3-inch personal TV screen. The inflight entertainment system, *ice*, has been expanded to offer over 6,500 channels, with a larger collection of movies and albums available in Urdu. Premium Economy passengers also receive an enhanced dining experience with regional menus and a wide selection of beverages.
