Energy Minister inaugurates installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure project

ISLAMABAD:Minister for Energy Khurram Dastagir on Friday formally inaugurated the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure project here in Islamabad.

 

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the project, he said these modern electricity meters will be installed in all high loss feeders and this move will help resolve commercial losses of electricity.

 

The Minister said he has issued instructions to the distribution companies for resolving energy related issues on priority basis. He said the installation of advance meters in Islamabad is a trial run and the cost of this complete project is 170 million dollars. The first phase of this project will cost 95 million dollars, he added.

 

He said initially we have decided to enforce this AMI metering in Rawalpindi Cantonment Circle and Rawalpindi City Circle. He said all kind of meters in these circles will be replaced. The Minister expressed the commitment to complete the project before the deadline which is 2025.

 

Khurram Dastagir said the first bidding of 600 Megawatt solar energy project will be launched soon and it would be Pakistan’s first project of alternate cheap electricity. He said these all measures witness Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to resolve energy crisis in Pakistan.
