Federal Government Proscribes Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan Following Provincial Recommendation

The federal government has officially outlawed the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), acting on a formal proposal from the Punjab government, a decision finalized during a cabinet session chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

According to official sources, the cabinet sanctioned the proscription under Article 17 of the Constitution, which governs the regulation of political associations. Following the high-level endorsement, the Ministry of Interior has been tasked with initiating the necessary legal and administrative procedures to enforce the ban.

During the pivotal meeting, the Interior Ministry presented a detailed report outlining the conduct and activities of the TLP, providing the basis for the cabinet’s deliberation.

The session also encompassed a broader review of the country’s current political and economic circumstances, alongside a discussion on developments related to the recent ceasefire agreement with Afghanistan.

Furthermore, the Minister for Defence provided a briefing to the attendees on the Afghanistan peace agreement. The meeting concluded with the ratification of prior decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases (CCLC).
